The advantages

The strengths of the integrated system for the production and use of HQ-SRF can be divided into environmental and economic advantages:  

Environmental advantages:

• reduced overall environmental impact, thanks to the use of an existing plant for energy recovery
• reduced polluting emissions produced by plants using the high grade fuel
• reduced emissions of carbon dioxide, in line with the directives of the Kyoto Protocol, thanks to the use of the fuel, a renewable energy source to partially substitute the fossil source
• reduced emissions of greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide and methane which would have resulted from the disposal of the waste in landfills
• lower environmental impact as there is no need to extract and transport fossil fuel, which is replaced by a renewable source

Economic advantages:

• lower investment required compared with other methods of recovery and disposal
• lower waste disposal costs for the community
• extension of the useful life of landfills
• lower energy costs for fuel users
