Uses
In Italy, HQ-SRF can be used in the following cases:
- cement kilns, where it is co-fired with coal or petcoke (in the main burner and subsequently in the pre-calcinator);
- coal-fired electric power plants in co-firing and in oil, orimulsion and also coal-fired plants for use after gasification.
For industrial end-users, HQ-SRF represents a valid and proven alternative to the fossil fuels that are usually employed.
Moreover, the use of HQ-SRF enables:
- over 10 million tonnes of municipal solid waste to be absorbed, equal to around 40% of the amount produced nationally, as well as reducing disposal in landfills by more than 50%;
- the average European energy recovery from waste, 27%, to be surpassed;
- emissions of carbon dioxide (CO2) produced by fossil fuels to be reduced by around 10 million tonnes;
- a significant contribution to achieving the objective for the production of electric energy from Renewable Energy Sources (R.E.S.), set by European Directive 2001/77/CE;
- Thermoelectric Power Stations to comply with their obligation to obtain Green Certificates at lower costs;
- the emissions from the chimneys of end-users to be improved, contributing to reducing NOx, SOx and CO emissions.
